The McCannel Technique performed on our SimulEYE® Iris Suturing & IOL Fixation (ISIF).

Take a look at the McCannel suturing technique performed on our SimulEYE® Iris Suturing & IOL Fixation (ISIF).

The Technique

The McCannel suturing technique for repairing iris lacerations is just one of many surgical techniques that can be practiced on the SimulEYE Iris Suturing & IOL Fixation (ISIF) model. After passing the suture through the cornea and under the iris, the needle is externalized through the cornea. A common paracentesis is placed adjacent to the iris defect through which the ends are externalized. The knot is tied and cinched down externally before trimming the suture ends.

The ISIF (Iris Suturing & IOL Fixation) Model

This model provides an eye with a flexible iris that can be easily cut and then repaired with various suturing techniques. The root of the iris can be disinserted to practice iridodialysis repair. Various IOL fixation techniques can be practiced including iris suture fixation, scleral suture fixation, and intrascleral fixation including the Yamane technique. In addition, IOL cutting and exchanges can be practiced. Multiple procedures can be performed on each model before the eye is consumed.
